Nairobi, Kenya; 29th January 2019: Kenya is set to break an official record for the World’s Largest Speed Dating event. Jumia will be  hosting the event on the 9th of February at KICC, targeting more than 1500 singles aged between 21- 45 years.

“During Valentines day, many Kenyans show love for their nearest & dearest. This year we will be going a step further by not only helping you find the perfect gift for your date, but also help you find your date too” says Jumia MD Sam Chappatte

The event will form part of Jumia’s Valentines Campaign running from the 4th Feb to the 14th Feb, through which Jumia commits to helping customers find everything they need for valentines, including a date!

Many singles are tired of the bar scene and weary of blind dates and speed dating offers a fun and safe alternative to meet like minded individuals

Connecting singles

This Valentine season, Jumia invites you, your single friends, friends in situation-ships, and single-not-so-single neighbors, to have their 1 BOB ready to purchase tickets on the Jumia App every-day from February 4th-10th Jan at 9 am. Limited tickets are available and are expected to run out quickly.

Jumia attempts to achieve Kenya’s 15th World record, by breaking the current record for the largest speed dating event that consisted of 651 participants and was achieved by Calgary Speed Dating Inc. in Canada, on 14 February 2014.

Rules of the game

Singles gather at the venue armed with their sparkling personalities and will each get a name card and a log book. Each individual will have 20 dates and each date is expected to last 3 minutes, with a bell denoting the end of a date, and a rotation of speed dates to the next person. Think of it as “Flirting Musical Chairs”, Jumia will facilitate and host the whole event so you are guaranteed to meet everyone present in a safe and fun way. There will also be a red carpet photo booth where you can take photos.
