1. About this Notice

This Privacy Notice for Candidates provides information on how Jumia collects and processes your personal data in connection with our recruitment purposes.

2. The data we collect about you

We collect your personal data in order to provide and continually improve our products and services. We may collect, use, store and transfer the following different kinds of personal data about you:

Information you provide to us when you apply for a job: We receive and store the information you provide to us including your identity data and contact data. This includes information provided through an online job site, via email, in person at interviews and/or by any other method.
In particular, we process personal details such as name, email address, address, telephone number, date of birth, qualifications, experience, information relating to your employment and educational history, skills experience that you provide to us.
Information on your use of our website and/or mobile applications: We automatically collect and store certain types of information regarding your use of our website including information about your searches, views, downloads and the resources that you access.
Information from third parties and publicly available sources: We may receive information about you from third parties including previous employers, schools, recruitment agencies and referees.

Where you provide sensitive personal data, you do so voluntarily and agree that such information may be used as described in this Recruitment Privacy Notice. We process these special categories of personal data in limited circumstances and in accordance with applicable privacy law.

3. How we use your personal data

We use your personal data for purposes related to selection, assessment and interview process:

to consider your application in respect of a role for which you have applied.
to consider your application in respect of other roles.
to communicate with you in respect of the recruitment process.
to enhance any information that we receive from you with information obtained from third party data providers.
to identify appropriate candidates to fill our job openings
to undergo background checks.

4. How we share your personal data

By applying for a job with Jumia you acknowledge that we may need to share your personal data having regard to applicable laws and regulations with:

other companies within the Jumia Group including those which may be located outside your location;
third party recruitment service providers engaged by us;
third party services providers engaged by us to verify your identify, complete background checks and confirm information you provide to us;
Competent Public authorities, government, regulatory or fiscal agencies, to comply with a legal obligation.

When we share your personal data with third parties we:

require them to agree to use your data in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Notice, our Privacy Policy and in accordance with the law; and
only permit them to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions. We do not allow our third-party service providers to use your personal data for their own purposes.

5. International transfers

We may transfer your personal data to locations in another country, if this is permissible pursuant to applicable laws in your location. In the event of international transfers of your personal data, we shall put in place measures necessary to protect your data, and we shall continue to respect your legal rights pursuant to the terms of this Privacy and Cookie Notice and applicable laws in your location.

6. Data security

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your personal data to those employees, agents, contractors and other third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your personal data on our instructions and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality. We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

7. Data Retention

We will retain your personal data for as long as is considered necessary for the purpose for which it was collected (including as required by applicable law or regulation). Jumia may retain and use the information you provided to us for a reasonable period to match your experience to the most suitable positions within the organization and for contacting you regarding other employment opportunities. When your personal data is no longer necessary or relevant for our identified purposes or where you have indicated that you are no longer interested in staying in contact with us, we will securely dispose of your personal data.

It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and current. Please keep us informed if your personal data changes during your relationship with us. In processing your personal data, you have rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data, including the right to access, correct or erase your personal data, object to or restrict processing of your personal data, and unsubscribe from our emails and newsletters, you can exercise these rights at any time.
